The goal of a world religion class is to expose students to the beliefs of different religions. They will learn about seven of most popular religions around the globe and have a respectful conversation with other faiths. In turn, this will prepare them to engage in conflict resolution, as well as help them understand their own religious beliefs.

During this course, participants will learn how each religion functions as an ethical teacher to other religions. These interactions will allow the traditions to share ethical ideas that help advance our mutual learning and development. They will also act like prophets and mystics challenging and enticing each other, as well as breaking down barriers of hard earned beliefs.

They will be able to explain their own religious beliefs

After studying about the various world religions, students can describe their own religious beliefs. In addition, students will become familiar with terms such as polytheism, monotheism, and nontheism. These terms should be taught to students and defined for future use. Students can also be asked to identify the religions that they are least familiar with. Ask students to then write down their answers either in a journal, or in the column W of a KWL charts. As students do this, the teacher should remind them of the rules. They should be reminded by their teacher that they can't discuss any personal information. Instead, the discussion should be about understanding each religion and not negative judgments.


A World religion class can be fun and interactive. Students can share their discoveries, create quizzes and even host a "Jeopardy!" Style competition. Students can also discuss what they have learned, holidays, religious observances, and other topics.
