Ares is one among the Greek gods. He is Zeus' first son. He is not loved by his parents or any other gods. However, his best friend is Aphrodite. The god is frequently associated with violence and warfare in all its ugly manifestations. He is the god who causes bloodshed, violence, indiscriminate murder, and destruction of human life.

Ares is the ancestor the god Mars. He was the father of the founders Romulus (Rome), and Remus. While Ares was loathed by most gods he was loved by Aphrodite. Aphrodite preferred handsome Ares even though she was married with the mortal god Hephaestus.
