Believing in many Gods has Many Benefits

all greek gods

There are many benefits to believing in many gods. This type of religion avoids many problems associated with monotheism, such as omnipresence and evil. People who practice polytheism are also less likely to be intolerant of other gods. To avoid these two problems, it is better to practice polytheism than monotheism.

Monotheism

The monotheistic religion stresses the uniqueness of God. The monotheistic religion of Israel was founded with the Mosaic text. The concept of a single God was derived from a belief in multiple gods.

Polytheism

Polytheism, or believing in many gods, is a religious practice where believers worship several gods. Although polytheism is sometimes confused with paganism it is a distinct category. Some polytheistic religions worship all the gods equally. Other places gods in hierarchical ordering. In each case, they have different powers. Each may not be capable of fulfilling the wishes of its followers.

Henotheism

Henotheism, also called polytheism or polytheism is a belief in the existence of many gods. While henotheists are not against the existence of other deities they believe only one primary god. Henotheism comes from the Greek words heis, which means one, and theos, which means God. Henotheism is distinct from monotheism as belief in multiple gods, or in a personal choice.

Pantheism

Pantheism refers to a philosophy that believes there are multiple gods. This philosophy is based on science and inquiry. Pantheism believes that the knowledge of all things leads to God's understanding. This philosophy does not require the belief in an afterlife nor strict rituals. This philosophy can be found in many non-Christian religions.

Animism

Animism is the belief in many gods and spirits. Animists believe everything is interconnected, even humans and animals. They believe that every thing is spiritual, however not all spirits share the exact same characteristics. Pantheists believe everyone has one, universal spiritual essence. Aimists believe each spirit is unique and that all are connected. Animists regard themselves as part and parcel of nature, equal to other forces.

Plant deities

Aztecs worshipped plant deities like Mayahuel, goddess of the maguey, and other plant gods. The deity is thought to have the blood in the sap from this plant. She also feeds a herd of 400 rabbits, which the Aztecs call Centzon Totochtin.

Polytheistic rulers

Polytheism doesn't have a fixed system. It is a flexible framework which allows local cults in different contexts. In contrast to monotheism, polytheism does not have a fixed set of gods, as is the case in monotheistic religions. Polytheism can be seen as an evolutionary stage. Scholars have rejected the notion that it is. They believe that multiple gods reflect an imbalance of cultural thought.

Monotheistic religions

Monotheistic religions include those who believe in multiple gods, sometimes many more than one. Most of the world's population practices one or more of these faiths. Some religions hold similar beliefs to God while others are more diverse. These three monotheistic religions are Christianity and Islam.
